Salla Thai
Rice Plates & Mortars
Rice plates, or "Gua kao" in Thai, are large slabs of wood carved into trays for communal eating. They can be hung on a wall or used for display and well as serving. We have a nice collection of these items and just a few are pictured below. Most are old teak. Some are nara wood or rosewood.
Our collection of mortars is very limited but still have some to offer. Like rice plates they are standard for the country kitchen where herbs and spices are mixed and pounded together for a tasty meal. Now they make for a nice vase, awesome coin dish or distinct wood artifact on the mantle.
